## Remarks

With `latest_version` true the server returns the latest checked-in version; `doc_version` is
ignored. With `allow_checked_out` also true, a caller who has the object checked out gets the
checked-out version instead.

With `latest_version` false, `doc_version` must be a specific version
(`OBJ_VER_VERSION_TYPE_SPECIFIC`); the `OBJ_VER_VERSION_TYPE_LATEST` marker fails with "Not found.
Invalid object version: -1".

The call fails with "Not found." (0x8004000B) when the object or version does not exist, when the
object ID has the wrong object type, and also when the caller is not allowed to read the object.
To read several objects in one call, or to tolerate missing ones, use
[GetObjectVersionAndPropertiesOfMultipleObjects](https://developer.m-files.com/APIs/gRPC-API/Reference/MFiles.IRPCObjectOperations/GetObjectVersionAndPropertiesOfMultipleObjects/index.md).

| Field | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
| `obj_id` | [`ObjID`](https://developer.m-files.com/APIs/gRPC-API/Reference/Messages/MFiles.ObjID/index.md) | The object: object type ID in `type`, object ID in `item_id.internal_id`. |
| `obj_id.type` | `int32` | The object type ID, for example 0 for documents. In a lookup value, the value list ID (for a lookup to objects, the object type ID). |
| `obj_id.item_id` | [`ItemID`](https://developer.m-files.com/APIs/gRPC-API/Reference/Messages/MFiles.ItemID/index.md) | The ID of the object within its type, in `item_id.internal_id`. |
| `obj_id.item_id.internal_id` | `int32` | The ID of the object or value list item. |
| `obj_id.item_id.external_repository_id` | [`ExternalRepositoryID`](https://developer.m-files.com/APIs/gRPC-API/Reference/Messages/MFiles.ExternalRepositoryID/index.md) | Used only for objects in external repositories (external connectors). Leave it unset for objects stored in the vault. |
| `latest_version` | `bool` | True to read the latest checked-in version (or the caller's checked-out version, see `allow_checked_out`). False to read the version in `doc_version`. |
| `allow_checked_out` | `bool` | Used with `latest_version`. True to get the checked-out version when the object is checked out to the caller. A version checked out to another user is never returned. |
| `doc_version` | [`ObjVerVersion`](https://developer.m-files.com/APIs/gRPC-API/Reference/Messages/MFiles.ObjVerVersion/index.md) | The specific version to read when `latest_version` is false (`OBJ_VER_VERSION_TYPE_SPECIFIC` and `internal_version`). Ignored when `latest_version` is true. |
| `doc_version.type` | [`ObjVerVersionType`](https://developer.m-files.com/APIs/gRPC-API/Reference/Enums/MFiles.ObjVerVersionType/index.md) | What `internal_version` means. `OBJ_VER_VERSION_TYPE_SPECIFIC` for a version number. Values: `OBJ_VER_VERSION_TYPE_UNINITIALIZED` (0), `OBJ_VER_VERSION_TYPE_LATEST` (1), `OBJ_VER_VERSION_TYPE_ANY` (2), `OBJ_VER_VERSION_TYPE_ALL` (3), `OBJ_VER_VERSION_TYPE_SPECIFIC` (4), `OBJ_VER_VERSION_TYPE_VALUE_LIST_ITEM` (6), `OBJ_VER_VERSION_TYPE_OBJECT_LEVEL_REFERENCE` (7). |
| `doc_version.internal_version` | `int32` | The version number, starting from 1, when `type` is `OBJ_VER_VERSION_TYPE_SPECIFIC`. The server returns -1 with `OBJ_VER_VERSION_TYPE_LATEST`. |
| `doc_version.external_repository_version` | `string` | Used only for objects in external repositories. Leave empty. |
| `doc_version.external_repository_sort_key` | `int64` | Used only for objects in external repositories. Leave 0. |
